The Isle of May, often referred to as the "Jewel of the Forth," is a small island with an extraordinary natural presence. Nestled at the mouth of the Firth of Forth, this remote outpost transforms each spring into a bustling haven for tens of thousands of seabirds. This gallery is a visual diary from the months I spent living and working on the island, immersed in its rhythms and seasons. From the thunderous calls of nesting guillemots and razorbills on the cliffs, to the more intimate moments with puffins, shags, and eiders, the Isle of May offered a front-row seat to some of the UK’s most spectacular breeding colonies. In quieter hours, the island’s shifting light, wild weather, and rich history revealed themselves in quiet, timeless scenes.
Through these images, I hope to capture not only the sheer abundance of life that calls the island home, but also the unique atmosphere and sense of place that make the Isle of May a true gem of Scotland’s east coast.
