This gallery is a curated collection of my favourite photographs of Atlantic Puffins, taken at colonies across the UK. These charismatic birds have captivated me ever since I first encountered them five years ago. Since then, they’ve become a central focus of my wildlife photography. My journey photographing puffins has taken me the length and breadth of Britain – from Skomer and Lundy off the coasts of Pembrokeshire and North Devon, to the remote Isle of May in the Firth of Forth, where I spent three unforgettable months living among over 50,000 breeding pairs. I’ve also travelled to the dramatic sea cliffs of Shetland, the northernmost reaches of the British Isles, where I endevoured to capture puffins in the broader context of their rugged coastal habitat using wide-angle photography.
Often nicknamed “clowns of the sea” or “sea parrots,” puffins are as entertaining as they are photogenic. Their vivid features and endearing, clumsy behaviour on land offer endless photographic inspiration – which I hope to share through this gallery.
